In the Catholic tradition, we call the Eucharist “food for the journey.” But there is another food that feeds us just as powerfully and richly. At the beginning of a catechumen’s journey of faith, we are reminded that the Word of God is a rich fare upon which we all feast. Hearing the Word is how we are taught the fear of the Lord and the goodness of God.
In the Rite for Entrance into the Catechumenate, we find several signs that point to the dignity of God’s word. Furthermore, in the early history of this rite, we are given a glimpse of how the church recognized and honored the sacred presence of Christ in the Gospels themselves.
As you prepare for the Rite for Entrance, imagine ways you can show and tell the catechumens how Christ is truly present with us in the Word. When you do this, you also help to renew the faith of the baptized in God who still dwells with us whenever we proclaim that Word in the midst of the joys, hopes, griefs, and anxieties of this world today.
In this short video, Diana looks at a simple rubric found in the Rite for Entrance into the Catechumenate that can begin to open up the feast that awaits your catechumens at the table of the Word on their journey of faith.

Thanks so much for these videos. I’m not an ICIA trainer anymore. I was for a very short time and I falla in love with it. I’m 77 right now, I’m available when they need me for an emergency situation, to cover a class. I’m also helping new lectors and responsible for a Catholic small group of ladies. But I love to continue my formation and I really love your teachings and the love and passion you have for our God, our church and the whole humanity. Thanks so much for that and I will continue to listening to you as much as I can.
We can always do our little part whenever we are. May God bless You and your team!
