It’s not something we often think about. But if we’ve been dismissing catechumens from Mass throughout their catechumenate on a regular basis, shouldn’t we also dismiss them during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday?
There are many reasons we might immediately dismiss this dismissal during the Triduum, such as, not having enough people to help facilitate the dismissal gathering, or just being too overwhelmed with all the other details of these three days. Yet, if we pay some attention to this ritual of the catechumenate process, we can help our catechumens, especially the elect, experience the fullness of the Triduum specifically as catechumens. And we can also help our parish continue to keep our catechumens at the forefront of their prayers as we prepare for the Easter Vigil.
