We always get that question whenever Lent is coming around and it’s Year B or C in the Lectionary cycle. We also hear the concern that people are “missing out” on the Year B and C readings for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent when we celebrate the three Scrutinies.
If you’re getting resistance to doing the Year A readings for the Scrutinies, then watch and share this video. Diana Macalintal lays out the ritual, historical, and pastoral reasons the Church asks us to proclaim these Year A readings every time we celebrate the Scrutinies for our Elect. They are that important for the elect and for all of us who believe in Jesus.

Hello Diana,
I am always amazed at how well you and Nick enable us to understand the OCIA in all of its varied elements – liturgical, communal, theological, and practical. This simple video makes it very clear why the Cycle A readings are important, even when the elect are not present to hear them. I appreciate you giving me new insights into them.
Thank you for your ministry!
