We get this question a lot, usually because there’s some misunderstanding about what goes on after the dismissal from the Eucharist. The description in the ritual text itself in paragraph 67A discusses sharing joy and spiritual experiences. But what does that mean?
Diana,
This is a wonderfully clear and ACCURATE description of what is to happen after dismissal at Mass. Some try to do too much, too much catechesis (in the religious education sense). Mystagogy iscatechesis of the liturgical kind.
Thanks for it.
Thanks so much, Eliot! Your statement about how mystagogy is catechesis of the liturgical kind is spot on! Pope Francis, especially his apostolic letter “Desiderio Desideravi,” really point to this. But also Pope Benedict XVI and even Pope John Paul II, not to mention so many of our catechetical documents, call for a deeper approach to catechesis that is grounded in our encounter with Christ in the liturgy. It’s exciting that the catechumenate is such a golden opportunity to recapture this way of formation.
