The Year of Saint Paul
Reading II
Brothers and sisters:
If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast,
for an obligation has been imposed on me,
and woe to me if I do not preach it!…
The way of faith
- The church has received a missionary mandate. “Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be “Ëœthe universal sacrament of salvation,’ the church, in obedience to the command of her founder and because it is demanded by her own essential universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 849)
- By virtue of their prophetic mission, lay people “are called . . . to be witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the community of humankind.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 942)
- Freedom characterizes properly human acts. It makes the human beings responsible for acts of which they are the voluntary agents. Their deliberate acts properly belong to them. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1745)
