I joined TeamRCIA after your free webinar last week. I knew of your work and have read a number of your books. I’m a paid coordinator at my parish and leading RCIA is one of my favorite responsibilities. The resources you and your team put out are amazing, and I’m excited to learn more about this incredible ministry.

All you produce is excellent. Such an easy ‘one stop shop’ that provides resources that are exceedingly accessible and respectful of where people are at and at the same time challenging because they are theologically sound in every way.

What You’ll Learn
You might think you didn’t sign up to be a healer. You signed up to be a teacher, a catechist.
However, Pope Francis says that our first task is to heal wounds. And we do that by teaching the first proclamation—the kerygma.
Ready to Begin Learning?
What is the real question?
Seekers often ask, “How do I become Catholic?” Too often, we fail to go deep enough to find out what they are really asking.
We are sometimes too quick to say something like, “To become Catholic, you have to come to these 36 classes that start in September and finish by Easter.” Because it is our vocation to “teach,” we feel obligated to teach doctrine as our first task. But Pope Francis is telling us that is not our first task.
Pope Francis’s challenge to all catechists
Pope Francis said:
On the lips of the catechist the first proclamation must ring out over and over: “Jesus Christ loves you; he gave his life to save you; and now he is living at your side every day to enlighten, strengthen and free you.”

Healing wounds
When we teach this, when we focus on just this and nothing else, our teaching heals wounds. Every wound is healed by the good news that Jesus loves us.
So what exactly is the kerygma and how do we teach it?
And is that really all we are supposed to teach?
These are the questions we are going to discuss in this online course.
Discover the true power of your teaching vocation—the power to heal the wounds of our seekers.
After a few years of gleaning ideas and inspiration from your books and your free content, it occurred to me that my experience could be greater with a full commitment to TeamRCIA membership. I have been involved in Initiation ministry for most of the last twenty-five years, making mistakes and misinterpreting the ritual text, but learning and growing during this long journey. I joined TeamRCIA to be my partners in ministry. Thank you for this opportunity to grow in both my faith and ministry.

A word from your guide
If, as Pope Francis says, the Church is a field hospital after battle, imagine he turns to us—the catechists, the teachers—and says, “Go. Heal the wounds.” What would we do first?
Maybe we’d feel a little nervous. Could he really be talking to me? I signed up to be a catechist, not a healer.
But, indeed, the pope is sending all of us—especially the catechists and teachers—to heal the world. And the first thing we have to do is this: proclaim that Jesus Christ saves us.
This first proclamation heals the wounds of unbelievers, seekers, and believers alike. It is, in fact, the only thing we are to teach, according to Pope Francis.
This course will give you confidence to accompany others on the journey of faith as you explore the nine core teachings of the church that make up this first proclamation. If you want to learn how to be the kind of catechist Pope Francis calls us to be to heal our world today, then this course is where you want to be.
