Cornerstone 4: Worship in Spirit and Truth
The final cornerstone that we have to build on as catechumenate ministers is to become authentic worshipers.
There are many, many ways to worship God, but for Catholics, the premier way is within the liturgy of the church. So in our disciple-making ministry, the number-one way we apprentice new disciples is to immerse them into the rites of the church.
This is also a new approach for some of us. If we don’t fully grasp the essential nature of the rites in the initiation process, they can seem like add-ons or options that enhance but are not essential to the journey.
For some of us, this liturgical formation can be the most difficult to implement. But it is also the most crucial for
- developing our confidence
- discerning the will of the Spirit
- and filling our hearts with joy
Because when we worship in Spirit and Truth and help our catechumens and candidates do the same, we encounter Christ, the source of all our joy.
