We have learned a few things from the COVID-19 pandemic. Isolation is painful. Sickness is frightening. Loss of income is devastating. And, because we are people of faith, we have also learned (or remembered) that God is with us in every moment. That we are loved. That there is a shower of grace and mercy for every difficult situation.

For many, many people, however, they only know the pain, fear, and devastation. They do not know that God is with them, offering to save them from the darkness. It is our job, as catechumenate team members, as people who know God’s love, to guide them on a path to the light of God’s mercy. That path to the light is the catechumenate. The catechumenate is not a program or a set of classes. It is a journey of faith. But here’s the hard part. Or the exciting part, depending on your point of view. The journey of faith is different for everyone. We all have the same goal—oneness with the Mystery of God. But the way we get there varies for every person.
